I often look at other peoples blogs or instagram account and love how they know what their favorite hobby is and that is all the do. I could never even start an account or blog that stuck to one type of niche topic because I love to do so a plethora of creative endeavors. Embroidery is one of that I've been drawn to more lately because of it's a "pick up and do it when you can". It is like crocheting to me in the sense that it slows my brain down but I'm still able to do something creative. Being creative with my hands is my therapy. I can quickly get in the zone and find it hard to stop. For which, I'm grateful for embroidery because it will wait for me to finish when I'm ready.
These hand embroidered boots were such a project for me. I started them about a year and half ago on a 10 hour ride to Poland to visit my parents on their mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Yes, I wore the boots there and yes I pulled it off my foot to embroidery right there on the plane. Even with all the time I had, I only managed to finish one boots. The second boot was finished on a different family trip, 6 months later. When I look at these boots, I now think of both of those trips. It's kind of like a way to bottle up a memory.
I first shared about these hand embroidered blundstone here on Pinterest. I love how these boots turned out so much that I wish everyone to do these to their own boots. That is exactly what I tell all those who compliment my boots. Thus, I have included a free pattern of these flowers that you can download for your boots. This isn't an official embroidery pattern that I would sell, so please forgive any imperfections in it. I simply drew it on my Ipad for the sake of allowing others to use it. Hence why I'm offering it for free.
It has taken me a whole year to post about these boots, but I think it's just in the nick of time before spring comes. What a way to start spring by doing some daisy embroidery patterns!
How to embroidery boots
Supplies:
- Download Free Daisy and Sunflower Patterns - This pattern is for personal use only. You may use it to make something and sell that item, but please don't sell this pattern.
- Boots or anything else you want to embroider with the flower pattern
- Stick n' stitch Embroidery Paper
- Embroidery Floss (I suggest high quality like DMC since you'll be wearing these and using them)
Step 1: Prepare the pattern
First, download the pattern and print it on stick n' stitch embroidery paper. I've actually used the embroidery paper alot lately and would highly recommend it. I even use it with my kids to teach them embroidery (see this post here)I actually didn't have this on hand so I just traced the design I wanted onto the boot. It turned out ok, but it would have been so much easier with the paper. But I also wanted to wear these between embroidering, so I didn't want the white paper showing. If you don't want to worry about the white paper, I'd suggest doing the same. Trace the embroidery design with a white pencil or black.
Step 2: Embroidery sitches used
Black Eyed Susans: Lazy daisy and french knots for the middle of the flower
Daisy and sunflowers: satin stitch
Stems: Stem stitch
Leaves: I kind of did something between a fish bone and fly stitch. Or something like that. I was really just making it up haha. There are so many different type of embroidery leaf stiches.
You can obviously use what every stitch you want, those are just what I used. I also can't tell you which colors I used exactly since I just used what I had on hand and never wrote down the names. Please tag me or email me if you ever use these flower embroidery patterns. I always love to see what others do!
And that's it.
