Making your own diy custom mug is easy to do now with the cricut
mug press. The mug is dishwasher safe and the design will not bubble or chip
off.
I don’t drink coffee, but I love tea and so when I had the chance to try make my own mugs, I thought it’d be fun to do. I was a little nervous at first to try Cricut’s new Mug Press but it was much easier than I thought. I think the hardest part for me was deciding what design to put on the mug. After I did a few different designs, my kids were begging me to let them make some too. That will be the next mug project.
The mug press is unique for making custom mugs in the sense
that it uses Cricut infusible ink which melds into the cup with the heat from
the press. I couldn’t believe the end result. It was smooth with no blemish. I’d
say like magic if I didn’t know better.
I transformed one of my own flower designs which I absolutely love! I’ll share the svg below. Something classic about the black with the white lines.
How to make a custom mug with the Cricut Mug Press
Supplies:
- Cricut Mug Press
- Cutting Machine
- Blank Mugs
- Infusible Ink
As for using it, I will recommend checking out this Video from Sweet Red Poppy Here. She does an excellent job at sharing detailed instruction.
- 1. Make sure you have a sharp blade in your machine. I think this is a general rule for cutting, but I thought I’d include it as a friendly reminder. Infusible ink is pricey to mess up cutting with.
- 2. If using words for your mug, make sure you mirror image the words.
- 3. Cricut has pre-designs and a cut outline to make cutting your mug outline easier. Use that to insert your design into.
- 4. Clean off mug before adding infusible ink (I forgot to do this on my first one)
- 5. Use cricuts heat tape to tape the tops and bottoms of mug.
- 6. You can use any infusible ink, but Cricut does have sheets that are the perfect size for the mugs. But any of the infusible ink from Cricut will work and they have so many fun ones.
If you ever have a chance to use a cricut mug, I hope you enjoy it as much as me
