When I got married 12 years ago (how it has been that long I can't figure out!!), a few sweet people gifted us hand embroidered tea towels. They have been loved and used, but after 12 years, they're much use shows with holes and many stains. When I saw that JOANN carries plain flour sack towels, I immediately had a fun idea.

I wanted to keep it simple. With this winter weather, I've been yearning for some warmth and colors. So, colors was where I was going to do. I love watercolor and thought it'd be fun to try to mimic it on these towels. Go HERE to see these DIY Tree Tea Towel
I decided to do freestyle painting and picked my favorite colors.
DIY Painted Tea Flour Sack Tow els
Supplies:
- Flour Sack Towels
- Acrylic Paint
- Wide brush
Step 1: Mix Paint
You don't need any special paints, I've learned over the years of doing the laundry that acrylic craft paint is painfully not washable. So pick your colors and mix one drop of water with each color. You don't want it to watery but enough to make it more liquid. I wanted to do a variety of tones in each colors.
Step 2: Paint
I wanted simple paint strokes with the colors with their respective colors. I did the pinks/oranges first, two rows. I then moved on to painting two rows of yellow, then greens then blue.
Step 3: Wash
Wash in the wash as normal and it will come out softer and looks even more like watercolor.
I did 3 designs total and loved how each one turns out. You can do so many things.
You can do so many different designs and a variety color combination to match your decoration or to match your favorite colors.
