I absolutely love scarfs, which is no secret. Unfortunately, in the Northwest it doesn't get quite cold enough for really thick scarfs, but I have found that this chunky crocheted scarf is the perfect warmth and comfort a Northwest winter.
I made it into an infinity and added leather as an accent just like my other leather bound scarfs that I made (my second leather bound scarf). I used a really big hook and got the thickest yarn I could find. I really do love it. See below for free pattern.
Chunky Scarf with Leather Accent Crochet Pattern
Materials:
2 skeins of thick/chunky yarn - I made this a year ago so I can't remember the brand or yarn I used.
a big hook - Size n hook (or bigger) works great
special stitch: hdcs - half double crochet stitch
Pattern:
*this is an infinity pattern (to be wrapped around twice), but you can add or take away stitches in the first row based on how it fits you.
Row 1: Chain 110 and then sl st to join ends. (this is where you would add or take away in part of the chain depending on how you like the fit)
Row 2-9: hdcs (n each stitch until you are finished. You can always add another row, but I only had 2 skeins of yarn and I didn't want it too thick and warm.
For the leather, I cut my piece of leather to the size I wanted it and so that it wrapped around the scarf and then glued it together with E-6000 glue.

DeleteThis scarf looks nice and warm! It looks just big enough to not be too bulky or too warm. And the leather accent is a great embellishment. I never thought to do so.

First, I love infinity scarfs. Second, leather wrap...genius! It looks beautiful and cozy.
ReplyDeleteThat leather accent is so creative! I've never seen anything like it. I love chunky scarves like this, but it's rare I get to wear them in Florida. I like to have a few for the occasional cold day or when I travel. Thanks for sharing this idea with Hump Day Happenings!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could make a chunky scarf like that and the leather detail on it is so cute!

ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for sharing this beautiful pattern! How do you connect/attach the leather? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, thanks for asking, I can't believe I forgot that part! I wrapped the leather around and actually glued it with e-6000 glue and it holds it together like a charm! You could stitch it as well, but I wanted it to really hold to gether.
