I am planning a Water Birthday Party for my soon to be 8 year old. Where we live it is super super hot. At the same time I am not sure I can handle 7-8 8 year olds running through my house. So we decided on a water party. For one of our activities we decided on a water balloon toss but I really hate the idea of filling up a million water balloons and then all those pieces of balloon all over my yard. I was searching through Pinterest one day and found Sponge Bombs. They are awesome! You can use them over and over and they were super easy to make. Because I was making so many I thought I would put together a simple tutorial for you all...enjoy!
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
Sponges (Target)
Nylon Cable Ties (Target...I now have 650...anyone need any zip ties?)
Sturdy Scissors
Step 2:
You will need three sponges per bomb. I decided to make them multi-colored. The birthday colors are orange, blue and green. I made the pink ones for a few girls that will be at the party.
Step 3:
Take one sponge and cut it length wise in half.
Step 4:
Next cut each half in half so you have 4 pieces.
Step 5:
Cut all the sponges in the same way.
Step 6:
Gather all the sponges in your hands and arrange them how you like. I liked mine a bit mixed up.
Step 7:
Hold all the sponges in your hands and then twist REALLY tight leaving a space open in the center for the zip tie.
Step 8:
Here is where you will need some help (unless you have 4 hands). Have your helped tie the zip tie around the center of the sponge bunch and pull it super tight.
Step 9:
Now what to do with the extra tie hanging out?
Make sure you cinch the tie down as much as you can. REALLY tight.
I like to use finger nail clippers to clip them down really short. I don't want anyone to get hurt when throwing the bombs around at the party.
There...done. Easy right?
Now go fill a tub up with water throw on your bathing suit (because you will get wet) and have some outside summer fun! Enjoy!
Fun and perfect for summer!
